Job Description

Overview:

  • Implement and administer Microsoft SQL Server databases
  • Adding or modifying system/user permissions to databases or database servers.
  • Perform capacity planning, cluster set up, performance tuning and monitoring.
  • Analyze processing issues and data anomalies and identifying solutions.
  • Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of all databases.
  • Play a critical role in design, build, implementation, upgrade and optimization of Microsoft SQL databases.
  • Perform requested changes, updates and modifications to database structure and data.
  • Implementing solutions for Microsoft SQL database backup and recovery infrastructure.
  • Monitor/maintain/upgrade Microsoft SQL database and assist application team with performance tuning initiatives and builds.
  • Assist in Backup and Recovery operations including Disaster Recovery planning.
  • Responsible for the creation, maintenance, backup, querying, tuning, user rights administration, and security of business and mission databases.
  • Understands the platform on which the database runs and ensures the performance of the database system.
  • Plans and coordinates security measures -data integrity, backup systems, and database security.
  • Defines file organization, indexing methods, and security procedures for specific user applications.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to perform various database administration and management tasks within the SQL Server environment that include the following:
  • Capability to play a critical role in the design, build, implementation, upgrade and optimizing of Microsoft SQL Server databases
  • Ability to perform routine database patching and coordinate with users and CIO staff regarding patch schedules
  • Perform proactive database monitoring
  • Ability to maintain and support backups and recovery
  • Execute database performance and tuning
  • Perform various SQL Server database security administration
  • Maintain and modify user permissions to database and database servers
  • Troubleshoot query performance issues and be able to find optimal indexes and explain plan for low performing queries
  • Support Microsoft SQL Server 2016 High Availability environment
  • Provide technical SQL Server DBA leadership and be prepared to present new Microsoft Database technologies to Data Services supervisor on future direction
  • Execute small to large database project plans and ensure the complete understanding of tasks and dependencies
  • Prepare database project plans and required tasks, estimated time frames and effort for small to large scope projects
  • Must be able to support database development and analysis staff assigned to the CIO division. This may include one or more of the areas shown below:
  • Database object migration from one environment to another
  • Database schema maintenance which may include additions and modifications to database objects
  • Ability to enhance data quality through data analysis, monitoring and working with data integration team
  • Support numerous application development and project teams and manage competing priorities
  • Ability to improve the data management procedures within the SQL Server environment and perform research to support improvements to procedures
